Day 4: 3d of Agust

Last day of my stay in Krakow...checked out and put my luggage in the luggage room. My bus to Prague departs from Krakow station at 11 25 PM at night and arrives at 6 50 AM at Prague Florenc station.

The day started at 7 AM as always, shower and breakfast, and... clothes for the staff, yeah free laundry!!! that's great!!!

Anyway 8:25 AM the van comes to pick us, just two guys of our hostel came to the tour of the Salt Mines, me and Andre a Portuguese guy who is living in Boston now, nice guy.

We came to pick more people at different spots of the city so we ended up being 7 people.

Once we reached the mine which was like 25 min from Krakow we had a 10 min break and had a coffee while waiting for the guide. 

The guide came so the tour stared inside the mine, salt in ancient times was considered essential to preserve food, it was so expensive it was considered white gold. Krakow's salt mine is UNESCO World Heritage site.

The guide started showing us a route with many halls, the most spectacular one was a chapel where 3 people carved the room and made some sculptures of the last supper and other religious stuff.

After the tour the van brought us back to the hostel, it was around 12 30 PM when we reached back the hostel and I dried my clothes which were cleaned by the magnificent staff of the hostel. Andre went to the Auschwitz tour at 1 30 PM and I went to have lunch in a duck restaurant close to the Old Town Square named Czarna Kaczka - The Black Duck.

I ordered a zurek soup, which is a sour soup in a bread and as main 1 quarter of duck with mushroom sauce, it was very good, around 60-70 zloty, so so cheap.

After lunch I did not know what to do, it was around 14:15 so I went to the Old Town Square, I saw a free tour so I joined it. The guide, Damian was a nice Polish guy who spoke good English and showed us the Old Town like the Saint Mary Basilica, the Cloth Hall, the Theater, the Barbican , the Wall, the University and the Castle. It was nice because he explained lots of history related to that.

At around 5 PM he finished the tour and we gave him some tip because I really enjoyed his tour, nice guy.

Since it was 5 PM it was a bit early to come back to the hostel so I went back to Old Town Square and climbed the Clock tower to take pictures of the square and the Saint Mary Basilica.

After the visit of the Tower it was like 6 PM so I decided to come back to the hostel because at 7 15 PM we would go together to have dinner in a Polish restaurant. Once I arrived I took the clothes I had dried and packed it in my luggage because I knew we would drink and I would not remember it. So better stay cool because my bus leaved at 11 25 PM and I had to be a good boy.

So, after the lugagge was done the staff brought us to a small restaurant close to the hostel called U Babcy Maliny.

The place was cheap but the service was slow, just to order it was a bit annoying becaue we had to queue a lot. I ordered wienerschnitzel. In the table I was talking to Swiss guy, Andre (the Portuguese guy I met in the morning), a Colombian girl who lived in Tolouse, Brent (an American womenhunter) an a pair of Dutch girls.

The food was ok and I had to order beer when nobody was in the queue, I treated some guys of the table because I had some spare zloty.

After dinner we went back to hostel at around 9 PM and played games again, this time was the pizza box game and the mushroom game, haha, all this crazy games are Chris games, haha. A group of Spanish girls came and madte the craziest rule of the game, everybody drinks in any turn, wtf, haha.

Goodbye guys from Mosquito Hostel!!

It was 22 40 PM , time to pack my things, say goodbye to the guys I met in the hostel, the Canadians (Sheryl and Steffan, Rose), Americans (Quinn, Brent), Andre (Portuguese) and so many more.

So, at 23 00 PM I was in the bus platform ready to go to Prague. It was such a nice stay in Krakow in this cozy hostel with such great guys, would come again. Nice!
